Allergen & Safety Information
Allergen & Safety Information
Eating insects is a bold move. We want it to be an informed one. Before you take the bite, read this page carefully so you know exactly what to look for and where to find it.
One rule above all others: the packaging is the boss. This page is general guidance. The authoritative, product-specific ingredient list and allergen information always live on the final packaging label of each product. Always read it before you eat.
The mandatory insect cross-allergen warning
We are required to state this clearly, so here it is, word for word:
Insect-based foods may trigger allergic reactions in people allergic to crustaceans, molluscs and house-dust mites, and may contain traces of gluten; always read the final packaging label.
This warning applies across our insect-based range. It is not a footnote. If any part of it applies to you, take it seriously.
A regulated novel food
Edible insects are treated as a novel food and are regulated as such in the EU. That means there are rules about how these foods are placed on the market, how they are labelled, and what information must reach you, the person doing the daring.
For us, that translates into a simple promise: every product carries the legally required information on its own packaging. We do not ask you to guess. We ask you to read the label.
Who should take particular care
If you have a shellfish, crustacean or mollusc allergy
Insects share allergens with crustaceans (think shrimp, crab, lobster) and molluscs (think mussels, clams, squid). If you react to any of these, insect-based foods may not be for you. Please take particular care and read the packaging label in full before deciding.
If you are allergic to house-dust mites
House-dust mite allergy is also linked to possible reactions to insect-based foods. If this is you, take particular care and check the label before you bite.
Gluten
Our insect-based foods may contain traces of gluten. If you avoid gluten, do not rely on this page. Read the specific product's packaging label, which lists the full ingredients and allergen information for that exact product.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or buying for young children
Trying something new is part of the fun, but some situations call for an extra pause. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or buying for young children, we suggest you seek your own guidance from a suitably qualified person before trying insect-based foods, and that you read each product's packaging label carefully first.
We are a food brand, not your advisor. This is general, cautious information only and is not advice about your individual situation.
Alcohol products: strictly 18+
Some of our range includes an alcohol product. It is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. By ordering it, you confirm you are 18 or older. Please enjoy it responsibly, and never supply it to anyone under 18. Age verification may be required at the point of sale or delivery in line with the rules that apply to your order. For the full details that apply to your purchase, see our Terms of Service and Shipping & Payment.
Where the real answers live: the packaging
To be completely clear:
- The packaging label is authoritative. It carries the full, product-specific ingredient list and allergen information for that exact product.
- This page is general guidance. It does not replace, override or update what is printed on the pack.
- Formulations and labels can change. Always read the most recent label on the product in your hands, even if you have ordered it before.
If anything on the label is unclear, or it does not match what you expected, stop and check with us before eating it.
Questions?
If you have a question about allergens or safety that the packaging does not answer, get in touch before you eat the product. Contact our team at podpora@grig.cz and we will help where we can. For anything relating to your specific health, please speak to a suitably qualified person.
