What are edible insects?

Exactly what they sound like: insects, prepared as food. People across the world have eaten them for generations, and now it's your turn to give them a go. At GRIG, we turn them into snacks and products designed for the curious, the bold, and anyone who's ever been dared to try something new.

What do they taste like?

Crunchy, savoury, and surprisingly moreish. Think along the lines of a toasted, nutty snack with a satisfying bite. The exact flavour depends on the product and the seasoning we use, so the honest answer is: try one and find out. Most people are shocked at how much they enjoy it.

Are they safe to eat?

Our products are made to operate within the relevant food rules and regulations for the markets where we sell them. We handle, prepare and pack with food safety front of mind. That said, the most important rule of all is the one below on allergies, so don't skip it.

What about allergies?

This one matters, so read it carefully. The mandatory insect cross-allergen warning is: insect-based foods may trigger allergic reactions in people allergic to crustaceans, molluscs and house-dust mites, and may contain traces of gluten; always read the final packaging label.

How are they made (in plain language)?

Without the jargon: the insects are reared, then cleaned, then prepared and cooked, and finally seasoned and packed ready for you to open and eat. We keep the process tight and the handling careful from start to finish. For specifics on a particular product, the details on the final packaging label are your source of truth.

What is "novel food"?

"Novel food" is a regulatory term used in some regions for foods that weren't widely eaten before a certain date and are therefore reviewed under a specific framework before they can be sold. It's a neutral, factual category, not a verdict on taste or quality. Different markets handle these foods differently, and the rules can vary by country. For anything specific to where you live, check your local food authority's guidance.

How do I store them?

Keep them somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight, and reseal or close the pack once it's open to keep that signature crunch. Storage details can differ from product to product, so always follow the storage instructions and the use-by or best-before information printed on the final packaging label.

Are they suitable for children?

We'd urge caution here. Given the allergen information above, we recommend that children only try insect-based foods under the supervision of a parent or guardian, and only after checking the allergen guidance. If there's any history of allergies, or any doubt at all, speak to a medical professional first. As with any snack, keep an eye on younger children while eating to avoid the risk of choking.

What about the tequila product?

Ah, the one everyone asks about. Here's the deal: this product is intended for adults aged 18 and over, and it is currently not for sale.
